Flower garden crazy wool workshop…
Finishing up in MI
Finishing kit for Words to Live by…SBOW 2013
Hey Everyone….This post is for everyone who participated in the summer’s Wool Block of the Week….Here is the finished quilt.
I am finally DONE! I love this quilt!
Now for the details…The finishing kit is $145. You can order it by emailing us at the shop…
primitivegatheringsquiltshop@yahoo.com or
you can order it on our site but you will have to do through the shopping cart and enter all that stuff again…if you just shoot us an email we can just attach it to the rest of your infor and ship them when it is ready. Click Here to order on website
PLEASE….PLEASE…PLEASE try and order by September 15th. We need to know if we have enough fabric or if we need to order more…The quilt is really scrappy with lots of triangles and setting triangles…inner border and then 4 wool applique blocks and will include the binding and pattern instructions.
If you missed out on this as BOW you can order as a it as a BOM starting this October for $28 per month at 14 months. Click Here to order it as a BOM. The girls who did this during our summer event saved $70 and got the Summer Blooms as a bonus! Don’t miss out next year!!!
We are in the process of sending out our first email with MailChimp….so look for that soon…LB
Hey California girls…notice the tail on my left bird? Just made it a little longer to cover the ink spot!!! ugghhh..

SBOW…more info….
I have had a few questions regarding the wool SBOW…
The paid in full customers have NOT paid for the finishing kits. This was not included in the price because I did not have the quilt finished to know what to charge…so even if you paid in full for your 13 block you still have to send us an email or order from the site.
You may also want to order the 2″ “triangles on a roll” to go with your finishing kit…I think there are about 720 or so in the quilt but using the Tri’s on a Roll make this a lot faster without losing accuracy.
The quilt finishes 86″ x 86″.
Thanks and I hope you all have a nice Holiday weekend!

Size Matters! or does it? up…
I hope everyone is enjoying this HOP…Moda is so “cool” organizing these hops so we all can get to know each other a little better and then all talk about our newest fabrics! Then they give us prizes to give-a-way!!! Don’t forget to check back to the Moda Blog to print the pattern with ALL of our blocks! I am sure it is going to awesome! Today I am posting with 2 other great Moda designers…here are their blogs…Kathy Schmitz Studios & Minick & Simpson so hop on over to see what they got going on and maybe win their prize too!
I am supposed to talk about how size matters….well… I was thinking about this as I was driving…and guess what pulls up beside me? A big o’l truck wrecker…the one that picks up disabled trucks and brings them back home safely…and as I am thinking about the blog hop and wondering what I am going to write about…I noticed this on the the truck…Size Does Matter…. so I had to snap a pic of it for the blog post…lol…this could only happen to me…now don’t scold me for using my phone while driving…I wasn’t texting I was being a photographer…So here are my thoughts on SIZE…if we are talking quilts….I like tiny pieces and then I also love big clunky quilts like the last book I did..Flannel Gatherings. I think size is a very personal matter and is as far and anything else…I am glad there are all kinds of sizes…would the world be boring if there was only one size???
Now for the blog hop I made this little quilt….Click Here For the block pattern..now I made the 18″ quilt that we were supposed to make…A lot of the designers have just a little trouble following directions…do you know why? They are way too creative…they can’t keep focused for that long and their mind reads something else..lol…anyway I made this quilt using a 3″ block…here are the measurements…A 4-1 1/4″x 2″ B 4-1 1/4″x 2″ and C 8-1 1/4″x 1 1/4″ as they are not listed on this chart for the block pattern…
Now I want to share with you the other quilts made from the same fabric line as my mini quilt. The fabric line is called Floral Gatherings and then there is also Floral Gatherings Shirtings…This is super cool to have the extra 20 prints to work with. I am showing a close up also so you can take a peek at how they all were quilted…they are all so beautiful…The quilts kits and patterns can be purchased on our site Here
So go size up that project you are working on and finish it so you hopefully can make a sizable dent in your fabric stash and then can go and purchase more Moda fabric!!!
Please leave a comment if you want to win one of the 8 prizes you Moda and I are giving away… They are a surpize so you better comment if you want a chance at these great prizes…Let me know what you favorite “size” of fabric is to buy….Mine is half yards and 5″ charms..

I just think I am addicted to Primitive Gatherings in general! I love the quilts that you make and the fabric designs are out of this world. I just have to keep up collecting them all! I can’t wait to try this Whirlygig.
Kim TurnerSeptember 13, 2013 at 11:34 am
I have limited sewing space so I buy charm packs, jelly rolls and layer cakers. On occassion I pick up a fat quarter as well.
Diane GSeptember 11, 2013 at 9:14 am
I would love to be able to buy a fat quarter pack of every fabric line…however, my crafting budget couldn’t handle it. Maybe I should thing bigger…
KateSeptember 11, 2013 at 9:05 am
Love the quilts- they all are lovely. I like FQs and charm packs. They are small enough that I can buy and not feel guilty!
KristySeptember 11, 2013 at 9:32 am
I am telling you, you and Linda are a match made in Heaven. Your quilt design and her quilting design are fabulous!!!! I did find the renegade tulip block…loved it! I also, love that Moda reprints some of your fabrics so I can buy it in one yard pieces. Yes, I said one yard pieces…..can you really ever have too much? I don’t think so. Kristy
Cathy WeatherfordSeptember 11, 2013 at 2:51 pm
I like 1/2 yd cuts, and fat quarters. Haven’t got into charm packs. You are so inspiring. Thanks so much.
aimee74September 11, 2013 at 6:51 pm
I prefer buying fabric in at least 1 yard cuts, if I really like it I buy as much of it as I can. I can always cut it down myself
sunporchquiltsSeptember 15, 2013 at 8:00 am
I find myself buying half yards more often than not – a fat quarter just isn’t enough!
Here is a quilt you can make from all of the blocks collected from the HOP! Made by Tammy…PS…Tammy is letting us publish a quilt she made from Floral Gatherings….stop back to see it!

our summer freebie…Summer Blooms…visuals
By now many of you have received your finishing kits for the Summer Freebie…Thank you so much for doing so…we love that we can give you all the blocks free during the summer
event and we appreciate that you like our finished quilt enough to purchase our finishing kit and again support my business. Again… THANK YOU!
I thought I would share with you how simple it was to do this curved inner border. I am not giving you specific directions in hope that you will have purchased or will now consider purchasing the finishing kit after you see how easy it was done.
In the first photo I have stitched the setting triangles and the blocks together into rows, stitched the rows together and then added the borders…as you can see my borders did not have to be this big…but I have never done this before so I didn’t know…The finishing direction will tell you what size to cut your border to…I used a small plate to draw my curves….I have given you the curve in the pattern so no need to audition your plates like I had to do…Trace the curve with your Clover liquid chalk pen.
In the second photo I have cut away the excess border not needed. I trimmed it right on the line…
In the third photo I placed the top onto a tan print square, folded the top back and added little dots of Roxanne’s Glue on the edges. Then secured it flat onto the tan fabric. Then the last picture shows the vine placed on the edge of the two fabrics along with some new appliquéd flowers and some from the blocks. If you have changed your mind and now would like to order a finishing kit for your freebie blocks you can do so HERE We will only take orders this week yet to ensure you get a kit. Also this is your last reminder to order a finishing kit for the Words to Live by…quilt. You can purchase that HERE Hope you enjoyed this little peek at how this was stitched.
Tomorrow I will talk about the Pieced block of the week…LB

Pieced summer blocks of the week…
How is everyone doing on their PIECED BOW! As you can see mine is all pieced together…I thought I should show you how I put them together…and I am revealing the antique quilt top used for inspiration….In the first photo I am showing the two quilts side by side….the one on the left is the antique, the one on the right is the one from the BOW. The new quilt is a little more colorful but I love how it turned out…I thought I would show you it before it was sent off to the machine quilter….the antique has some wonderful fabrics…it has a lot of pinks and reds and no blue…there are some very large scale prints that look like wall paper… Click on the photos to make them larger.
I set my quilt 12 blocks wide, in 14 rows, alternating light and dark blocks (see the centers)…I am not going to put a border on it as I don’t think it needs one. My quilt finishes 72″x 84″…now the real questions….Should I have the antique quilted…It is only a top? What do think?…I would love to know your opinions…
Also…if you would want us to re-kit this quilt let us know if you are interested in buying the whole kit…The kit will be $215.00 plus shipping. It has 168 fabrics in it and there are some nice leftover pieces after cutting it out to make a couple smaller quilts…If we get enough names we will consider cutting this again. Leave us a reply with an email and we will contact you if we re-kit it. Just in case you could kick yourself for not doing this one this summer!
This quilt was so much fun to piece…it took my less than 2 hours to cut and piece the 12 blocks each week…Ok…sometimes I had to do more than 12 to catch up!

Fall decorating…
I am so excited…I have to share my Fall decorating…do you want to know why??? It hasn’t happened in years!!! Too busy in the Fall… and it just didn’t get done…but now I don’t care how busy I am, I am taking some time to do some of the things I miss…so please enjoy a couple of my pics…and I have labeled the items as to who designed them…the reason they are in my house is we no longer have them in the shop as kits, but the patterns may still be available…so please I am not trying to “sell” here…I just want to share my decorating…Do you have your house decorated and enjoying the start of fall? Farmers markets…apple crisp…pumpkins…and our trees are just starting to turn…all for now…LB

Well….there was a quilt on this door…someone must have needed it for a show?? Forrest Floor…I guess see the mystery quilt at a show near you.
- A Linda Brannock designe from long ago…14 years…and you can’t miss Jeter…

the other view of the Front porch…notice who had to get into the shot? That would be Jeter…again…I also noticed he sneaked in the first photo also..this is way too funny..

last weekend…
I thought I would post about last weekend before this weekend happened…Nick and I went to the Oshkosh farmers market and came home with lots of goodies…I made several new dishes off of Pinterest so we had gathered all the “supplies” and we were going to enjoy the weekend at the lakehouse…I cooked and stitched…cleaning up some things like quilting some little quilts…we finally have the twister Jack samples done from Need’l love using out Itty bitty twister tool…we have lots of kits so if you already have the Itty Bitty template…here is something really cool to make with ….I quilted one and Carole quilted the other…I just used a piece of flannel for batting because it has so many seams…this is a great little quilt to add a little more excitement in your holiday decorating
I also have quilted my little bonus quilt from last years pieced Rocky Mountain Puzzle….SBOW….This pattern will be available soon…so look for it on our site soon….

off to houston….
Sorry I haven’t posted for awhile…but you all know how crazy it is around market time…we have lost a few great people in our lives this last month….things were tough for us and our employees…but we pulled it together the best we can and off to Houston we go….Tina will not be with us this trip…we will miss her… she has been to every Houston market we ever attended. But she will be ready to go in Spring I am sure…
I know these are not pictures of Houston…but they are of my new studio!!! My home studio is over flowing with everything…so we are building a new one by our warehouse…we basically have taken over the whole set of suites (4) where our warehouse is located, all but the one where Joe…the owner has his.
Our new studio, is 30 x100… and has 14′ walls!!!! The sewing space will be 30×60 and the rest will be for storage…who knew fabric took up this much space…This is where will will work on our projects….film videos…store our antique quilt collection, hold classes that we may also tape, and who knows what else…but I thought I would post pics of its progress…So now when you come to Primitive Gatherings you can also visit our studio!
Now did I forget anything for Houston??? Oh…it is only the coconut bra and grass skirt for the Moda party…darn it!!! …hopefully they will still let me in…in second thought if I did show up in the cc bra and skirt they probably wouldn’t let me in…lol!

video for writing on your Words to Live by blocks…
Hey everyone…
Here is a video that Gene taped for Shop Owners at Market…I am showing it to you because you can see how I trace a word onto the block…I have to admit I am not at all comfortable doing this yet…it is all on the spot..no rehearsals…this is actually a retake because the first one the sound did not work…uuuggghhh…so that is why I had to trace on the charm square!!! but you get the idea just the same…I think I did about 6 videos at market for various people…but it is still not my favorite thing to do yet….but for you I will get better at it and hopefully more comfortable.
If you love your Summer Block of the Week…Words to Live by…show your local shop owner your blocks and tell them about this program through Moda and they can order it to run as a BOM in their shop next year. All they have to do is see their Moda rep to get all the details and order!!!

Threads of Change…
Hey Quilters! Looking for a story book to read about a family (mostly women), heading west from New Orleans to avoid the Civil war? You have to hop on over to Jodi Barrows’ (the square in a square gal)site and order the first book in this new series…The story is based on Jodi’s actual family…it features her great grandmother Liz, who has made over 200 quilts in her lifetime…I can’t wait for the 2nd one due out early next year..I read this in the hotel room in Houston in only two nights…so it is an easy read…I really want to support my fellow designers so you have to go to her site…I want her to make ALL the money…I will have it on my site later, but for now I want to do my part and let everyone know about it! I am sure she will send you a signed copy if you order directly from her site, click here: Square in a Square
Shop owners call Jodi and order them for your store too!!!
