Hey Blockheads – happy hump day! We’re quickly approaching the end of the Moda’s Blockheads 5 series, with only two blocks left to go! We’ve officially entered the final stretch with week #29, with a block contribution from guest designer, Alison Dale of Alison’s Expressions. Her block, “Maria’s Star” is named after her grandmother and niece, and it includes a technical feature that we haven’t seen yet in the Blockheads series!
Alison describes “Maria’s Star” as a unique paper-pieced block. It features a partial seam in the center that adds an intriguing twist to the design. Though the block may look complex, she is confident that it’s actually easier than you think. The good news is, if you end up needing some help along the way, she’s created a step-by-step video tutorial demonstrating how to sew a partial seam to complete the block, which you can find on her blog by clicking the button below!
If you still find this block to be a bit too much of a challenge, always remember that you can opt out! It’s YOUR quilt – you’re the boss! I’ve mentioned in the past that there were a few blocks in this series that either didn’t appeal to me, or were too time consuming so I simply didn’t do them – and I’m not worried about it! I can always come up with my own alternatives if I need to, and so can you!
As I’m sure you already know by now, for all my blocks in the Moda Blockheads 5 Series I’m using Bella Solid Silver (9900 183) for the background, and Bella Solid American Blue (9900 174) consistently throughout the entire thing. For any additional colors I’m using a combination of the soft, muted collection of Bella Solids that we put together for this project called “Sundown,” along with a new playful and vibrant Bella Solids collection called “Cozy.” Both collections are available for purchase on our website by clicking the buttons below!
