Hey Blockheads! If it seems like it’s been a while since I’ve done a Blockheads post, that’s because it has been! I’m sorry about being a few weeks behind on my MBH5 progress. I will admit that I have been super busy and not in the studio much over the last month, so a few of my on-going projects ended up taking the back seat for a minute. No worries though. I spent most of my afternoon with my nose solely stuck to the Blockhead grindstone, and managed to pull myself out of the abyss. Not counting a couple blocks that I skipped (because they were either too intricate/time consuming or they just weren’t my style – I’ll make alternatives later), I am pleased to report that I am not only caught up with the majority of what I’m missing, but I’m also ahead of the race once again. Woo hoo!
Can you believe we’re on block #24 already? The design comes to us from Linzee Kull McCray of linzeekullmccray.com. Known as Moda’s “resident feed sack expert,” she is a textile historian and fabric designer who’s patterns are inspired by vintage quilts with a cheerful vibe. Despite the name, Linzee’s fun and easy-to-piece block, “Eccentric Star” is a simple nine patch design created using a patchwork of three rows of three squares each – like a tic-tac-toe board. A series of eight half-square triangles surround the center block. The idea around Linzee’s “Eccentric Star” was to design a block that’s easy to stitch in case someone needs to make several to use for extra blocks along the way. Hmm… Thanks, Linzee!!!
