Hey Blockheads! The week is flying by as we find ourselves at the top of the mid-week hump already – and you know what that means! The next block release from Moda’s Blockheads 5 series is ready to rock. After making it through such a long and exciting Fourth of July week celebration, I think it’s fair to ask… Are you???
Before we can dive into week #28, let’s take a minute to talk about week #27, which came out last week in the midst of all the holiday craze. Let’s just say I had the time to make the block, but absolutely zero time to talk about it, so let’s do that now! The block is called, “Twinkle” and is brought to us by guest designer Brenda Riddle of brendariddledesigns.com. This classic star pattern is traditional and versatile which makes it a great block for however you decide to piece it. Whether you’re a scrappy kind of quilter, or you pre-plan everything to a T, this block will handle any style you throw at it with stunning results.

“Twinkle” is put together using mostly half-square triangles that surround four basic squares in the center, with an additional square in each corner. After all the half-square triangle based patterns we’ve made together over the years, this should be a fairly easy block for you to accomplish in a short amount of time. If not, no worries. Ana Dineen over at Moda has provided a step-by-step video tutorial to help you through the process, which you can watch by clicking HERE!
Moving on to Block #28 , the appropriately named, “Morning Glory” by Chelsi Stratton of A Quilting Life, is a creative melding of the traditional star block and a blooming flower. Despite its intricate look, a couple of simple flying geese, some half-square triangles, a snowball, and some basic squares are all it takes to create this summery addition to your MBH5 masterpiece.

Just like “Twinkle,” if you’re having any trouble whatsoever with the “Morning Glory” block, you can find tips and tricks from Moda’s Lissa Alexander to guide you through by clicking HERE!
In case you’re wondering, for all my blocks in the Moda Blockheads 5 Series I’m using Bella Solid Silver (9900 183) for the background, and Bella Solid American Blue (9900 174) consistently throughout the entire thing. For any additional colors I’m using a combination of the soft, muted collection of Bella Solids that we put together for this project called “Sundown,” along with a new playful and vibrant Bella Solids collection called “Cozy.” Both collections are available for purchase on our website by clicking the buttons below!
Whew! Now that we’re up to speed on MBH5, I think I can hang it up for the night! It’s been a beautiful day, and promises to be a pleasant evening. I’m thinking I might get a bike ride in… Whatever it is you choose to do with your night, I hope it’s great! I also hope that you’ll join me LIVE tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. CST on my STITCH with Lisa Bongean YouTube channel where I’ll be showing off my works in progress for the month. Then, directly following that, there will be another opportunity to hang out with me and the girls while we have some fun on CommentSold (at approximately 2:15 p.m. CST). Not a CommentSold shopper? Come see what all the fuss is about anyway! Even if you’re not in the mood to shop (is that a thing?), we always have a ton of fun – so come hang out. You never know… It might turn out to be your new second favorite show (second only to STITCH with Lisa, of course)! See you there! ~Lisa
